CELEBRATING NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET WEEK

What comes to mind when you think of the Madison Farmers Market? Is it fresh produce and sunshine? Perhaps artisan bread and hand-crafted goods? Or maybe having breakfast and visiting friends while shopping? Could it be fragrant flowers, farm-fresh meats, proteins, and cheeses? You’re likely feeling the same nostalgic and welcoming vibe that everyone experiences when they think of the Madison Farmers Market. And this week, we are celebrating that exact vibe and nostalgia during National Farmers Market Week!

About the Madison Farmers Market:

The Madison Farmers Market, with Madison Main Street, is a year-round, 100% Producer-Only market held at the Broadway Fountain every Saturday. Our vendors offer nearly everything a local shopper could want or need: vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, flowers, herbs, plants, soap, shoulder bags, jewelry, gifts, art, and so much more.

National Farmers Market Week celebrates and highlights the vital role that our local farmers play in providing fresh, healthy, and diverse options while fostering community and connections. – Brittany, Madison Farmers Market Manager

What it Takes to Run the Madison Farmers Market:

Farmers markets don’t just happen overnight! Did you know that it takes an average of five dedicated volunteers each week to produce the Madison Farmers Market? As the saying goes, “Many hands make light work,” and this market is no exception. The contributions of these volunteers are invaluable. On average, the Madison Farmers Market benefits from 15 volunteers each month, contributing a total of 20 volunteer hours, including time spent in monthly committee and planning meetings. However, the volunteers and the Market Manager are not the only ones making the market possible.

This summer season, the Madison Farmers Market boasts 27 approved vendors. Each vendor is an expert in their field, with many relying on the market as their sole source of income. These resilient vendors show up weekly to connect with customers and support the market.

This week, we emphasize our appreciation for the hard work of farmers and producers who harvest their produce for our community, promoting sustainable agriculture and stimulating our local economy. By acknowledging their contributions, we strengthen the bonds between farmers and consumers, ensuring our local food system thrives. -Brittany, Madison Farmers Market Manager

While vendors, volunteers, and staff make the market possible, our sponsors help bridge gaps and support the foundation of the Madison Farmers Market. Thank you to our 2024 Madison Farmers Market sponsors for investing in your community and supporting your market.
